A case number is assigned by the court when an initial filing is accepted by the court and entered into the court's records. If you have an existing case number with the court, but are unsure what the case number is, it is recommended to contact the court for assistance.
Further recommendations include checking any documents or notifications received for the case number. If you used the file and serve site to file the case, you can check your Filing History or look for filing notifications sent to the email address used to submit the initial filing. Typically, filing notifications will include the case number in the subject line or towards the top of the document. You may also try searching by a party name in the case using the File Into Existing Case search tool in the File and Serve site.
Other options include using a court records portal or re:Search (depending on court location/State) to search by a party name in the case to locate the case number.
Please be advised: Technical Support can NOT assist with locating an existing case number with the court. If you have already tried the methods recommended, or are encountering problems searching on a court records portal, you will want to contact the court for assistance.
