Sometimes, a filer will start a new case that only needs one Party.* However, the system may require the filer to name two Parties in order to proceed. This is based on court configurations.
The first step filers should take in these situations is to contact the efiling review clerks at the court they are filing into to confirm what filers should type into the Party Name input field. A few important questions to ask are:
- Is there anything specific the court wants the filer to type into the unnecessary Party name (like "Unavailable", "Non-Applicable", "N/A", "No Party" or something similar)?
- Is this Case Type misconfigured? If the case isn't supposed to show more than one Party in the Parties page, then the case may be configured on the court's end. If so, the clerks should contact our Court Support team to resolve the matter.
* This does not include Probate cases (where the deceased may be listed as another Party) or
name change cases (where the other Party can be the name the filer is changing theirs to.)
