Electronic email service of filings can be done on cases where parties have listed their email on the case service contact list.
If you would like to learn how to add your email to a case click here.
At the Dashboard, click on File Into Existing Case.
Select the location and enter the case number or party name. Click Search.
Once the case appears, click on the corresponding Actions button to the right of case listing, select File into Case.
Scroll down to the Filing section. Click on the Filing Type box. The options of EFile, EFileAndServe, and Serve will appear in the drop down menu.
EFile will only send your filings to the court. It will not serve your filings on the other parties on the case. You would have to serve the parties on your own.
EFileAndServe will send your filings to the court and also serve them electronically on any service contacts you select in the Service Contacts section.
Serve will not send your documents to the court but will serve them electronically on any service contacts you select in the Service Contacts section.
In the Filing Type box, select either EFileAndServe or Serve. Select the Filing Code(if EFileAndServe is selected). Upload the Lead Document or Service Document(only appears if Serve is selected). Take action on any required red boxes in the Filing Section. Click Save Changes.
Next section is the Service Contacts. The Service Contacts section will show all the parties who have elected to have their email available to be electronically served on the case. If you don't see an email under the party then the party has yet to add their email to case.
Check the emails that you want to serve. Uncheck to not serve the service contact.
If no emails have been added to the case, your state's eFiling website might have the option to click the Actions to the right of the party and add from the Public List.
*Please Note: You should NOT add opposing sides as contacts to a case unless you are adding them from the Public List. If they are not on the Public List you will need to serve them through traditional methods. The Public list and Add New option vary by state. See What is the Public List? (Service Contacts)
Click all required fields in the Fees section(boxes outlined in red). Click Save Changes.
Go to Summary to review and Submit.
